Journal Entry 57: What Makes Fire? :)
In the book called Hatchet, the main character which is Brian tries to make a fire. Brian failed many times to make a fire but at last he could make a fire. The three things he used was his hatchet (to make sparks), wood (to cause friction), and the last thing was oxygen (heat). Although before I read this book, I thought that rubbing two sticks of wood together could make fire because I saw that it can happen in many television shows. Brian at first tried using two sticks of wood to make fire, although it could not work, not like how it shows in many tv shows. Brian then uses his hatchet to make fire because at first he was sleeping in the dark until there was this creature moving around inside his shelter, which is a porcupine. Then Brian threw his hatchet at the porcupine but he didn't aim, so instead he aimed the wall by accident, which prevented sparks. Then he tried adding the sparks into the wood (the wood has to be dry, not wet), although the sparks faded quickly. Brian then added the sparks into the wood then he blew air into it, which kept the sparks on the wood.
